My newspaper wasn't delivered today and, unfortunately, I wasn't able to get another one delivered because it was too late. Hope tomorrow's paper is delivered!

San Francisco Chronicle - No paper delivered again

Actually for the first time my paper was delivered through the mail slot in my garage door. So it was delivered, but in a new way. More secure I guess.

User's recommendation: A quality newspaper.

I would have been very happy if I had not used Pissed Consumer.com as this is why I had the problem

Updated by user Jul 13, 2026

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund.

Original review Jul 13, 2026

I was not given an opportunity to speak to a live person. The bot only told me that my missing paper had been reported and did not offer a refund or a re-delivery. I was unable to make a direct phone call.

Not a happy camper!

Pros:
  • Service

User's recommendation: Meditate before calling.

I did not receive a Chronicle on Monday 7/27. When I called the person couldn't hear me and asked me to call later. I did however receive a Chronicle on Tuesday and today.

Great newspaper

At first it was difficult to speak with a human at SF Chronicle. But finally, they were able to help us solve a billing issue. They recognized that we were long time readers of their paper.

Cancellation of subscription

AI Highlights
  • - $19.96 monthly charges for a phantom subscription.
  • - Multiple contact attempts via calls and emails, plus an office visit, with BBB complaints noted.

The Chronicle cant find my so called phantom subscription, yet they continue to charge me $19.96 per month. From doing online research, it is clear to say that other people are caught up in this Chronicle Web this is not a good look for the San Francisco, Chronicle while they are not member of the Better Business Bureau, they have 70 complaints against them if I do not get this resolved, there will be one more complaint.

Even 7 on your side got involved with someones complaint about getting a refund.

If youd like to do your own research, you can even search for San Francisco, Chronicle scam, and youll see what Im talking about.

I will continue to try and get my money back. I have called the Chronicle four times, emailed the digital subscription, emailed the pissed off consumer, and this may warrant me going to their office at 450 Sansome Street, which I have no problem doing.

User's recommendation: Think twice about getting a Chronicle subscription

In the print edition which we get, there are SO MANY typos and left-out words and repeated words, even in captions and headlines! It drives me crazy. Don't they have copy editors??

Can't reach anyone!!

San Francisco Chronicle - Can't reach anyone!!

None of their phone numbers listed online work. Most are disconnected or wrong (one now goes to a government agency), and the couple where I could connect, voicemail full, doesn't go to any specific person, and they say they may monitor and make a recording of your call (without your consent).

This includes a number specifically for their own subscribers. Multiple emails sent over several weeks to the reporter I was trying to reach (Aldo Toledo), via the email address listed for him on his story, have gone unanswered. Media companies that are non-communicative, non-transparent, and not respectful of the privacy or time of members of the public are failing at their basic mission. How can they have any moral credibility to hold government and other institutions and people with power accountable when they do such a poor job being transparent, accountable, and responsive themselves?

I know times have been tough for media outlets, but that doesn't excuse most of this. Recording calls costs them money.

How hard is it to update the phone numbers listed for them? Maybe the San Francisco Chronicle's time has passed, and they just deserve to go out of business and be replaced by more caring, responsive media outlets that have more respect for the public and present as part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Preferred solution: Fix their broken communications!

User's recommendation: Think twice before subscribing, because if you have any issues, you probably won't be able to reach anyone at the paper.

That reporter is under no obligation to respond to your emails.

No, he isn't *obligated* to respond. It's also *possible* (though unlikely, since I used a current address and got no bounce notices) that neither he nor anyone else at the Chronicle received any of my emails.

But in the context of the paper's apparent general disdain for communications from the public, I suspect he just didn't want to.

Which is particularly ironic coming from people whose entire profession is built on sources being willing to return their calls, emails, and messages. It's not the kind of thing to engender public trust in the media, which is near or at an all-time low.

Sounds like the pattern of a failing business.
